A new crossing is going to be installed at Much Birch to make getting to school safer for children, and those who walk with them.

A spokesperson for Highways England told the Ross Gazette: “We have listened to the Parish Council and those working at the local school and we will be putting crossings in place to allow children and residents to more easily access the school on the other side of the busy A49.

“By putting this crossing in place, it will make it safer for children and their parents to walk to school by using the crossing.

To further improve safety for those getting to the school and local shops, we are also lowering the speed limit on the A5 on both approaches to the crossing.

“We will also resurface part of carriageway and new cycle footways. We will also install brighter street lighting as part of the scheme.
