Mrs Joyce Thomas MBE has been trying to find the owners of an eroding wall on Gloucester Road, which has recently been brought to the attention of Ross Town Council.

Joyce said that a number of people have contacted her, so she decided to telephone Herefordshire Council’s building control herself.

“I spoke to an officer called Mr Charles Jones and he confirmed that Councillor Phil Cutter had contacted the department and a visit was arranged to see the wall.

“I asked if there was a safety issue, and the officer confirmed there was.

“I then asked, what are they going to do? And he said he would try to find the wall owner, and would hopefully let me know before Christmas.”

Joyce said: “That’s all very well, but meanwhile it is a safety issue that needs to be dealt with as soon as possible.” She said that he agreed and was most helpful, saying he would do what he could to find ownership.

Joyce said she suggested to Mr Jones that a fence would look nice there instead of the eroding wall, if the grass behind it was kept low and tidy.

She added that “you can also see the lake, which would look really nice.”

Mr Charles Jones spoke to the Ross Gazette and confirmed he had spoken with Mrs Joyce Thomas.

He added: “If we can’t establish the owner, we’ll have to carry out demolition of the wall, but not reinstatement.

“The fence that is already in place, mitigates the safety risk.”

He added that this process may take some time.
