PLANNING permission is being sought for the change of use of a small part of a field adjacent to the Riding for the Disabled Centre in Whitchurch for the siting of three holiday log cabins.

The construction of Trewen Meadows as a new bespoke facility for horse riding at Herefordshire Riding for the Disabled, was completed last year and now the owners are looking to provide accommodation for visiting riders.

The application states that the cabins will be prefabricated and will arrive on site in two halves and then be bolted together.

They will have a natural timber log exterior with a pitched bitumen tiled roof and each will be two bedrooms.

The cabins will be sited to follow the existing access track and orientated to take advantage of the views and be compliant with relevant access ramps to the side and front.

The holiday cabins will be for the benefit of customers using the riding facility.

The proposed cabins forms part of the wider development of Trewen Meadows and are intended to support the centre, its activities and the people who use its facilities.

The purpose of providing accommodation at the site is to enable people using the centre to stay on site in an environment that is suitable for people who have additional needs or require a greater level of support.

This may also include family members, carers, support workers or others who need to accompany them during their stay.

Since opening last year, Trewen Meadows has proved to be very popular and offers around eight sessions per day, each accommodating up to five participants.

The agent, CDB Planning and Architecture said: “Staying on site would allow participants to take part in activities over consecutive days without the additional difficulty of travelling to and from the centre or having to find suitable accommodation elsewhere.

“Accordingly, the intention is not for the cabins to be operated as general purpose holiday accommodation for members of the public who have no connection with Trewen Meadows.

“Their purpose is to provide appropriate accommodation as part of, and in support of, the wider activities and objectives of the centre.”

. Participation in equestrian activities, such as riding and associated activities can assist with balance, coordination, posture, confidence and communication, while also providing opportunities for social interaction, achievement and enjoyment.
