PC Richard Barradale-Smith, who has been working with residents of Kent Avenue, representatives of Balfour Beatty, as well as Town and County Councillors, has come up with a way of alleviating the traffic misery in this part of Ross.

The plan means that some traffic will be one way, for example traffic coming from the Walford direction will not be able to enter Kent Road but will have to travel further along Walford Road, turn into Sussex Avenue and then back to where they need to go. Most of Sussex Avenue will be designated as one way.

Councillor Phil Cutter has been working with the residents as their County and Town Councillor for some time. He said they have been concerned for a long time about the number of heavy goods vehicles which use the road.

He told the meeting of Ross Town Council that this solution was the best they could come up with and he believes that most of the residents are happy with the solution.

He told the Councillors that this needs their support and they need to press Balfour Beatty to apply for a Traffic Order for this and they would also have to sort the signage.

The Mayor of Ross-on-Wye, Councillor Colin Gray proposed that the Town Council should ask the Clerk to send a letter to Balfour Beatty indicating that the Council supports the idea and asking for it to be a priority.

At a previous Town Council meeting, one of the residents, Paul Smith, had told the Councillors that there are a number of traffic issues along that road, including irresponsible parking and speeding as well as its use by HGVs.

Mr Smith said problems were caused by a combination of people trying to cross the road to access the doctor’s surgery and the play park. He said it was a “recipe for disaster.”

At that time Mr Smith said:?“This is a serious issue, and a risk to life.” He added that the employment of a one-way system might be a slight inconvenience, but it would ease congestion.
