A collision involving two lorries at the crossroads at St Owens Cross, near to the New Inn has sparked renewed calls for further speed restrictions on this road or changes to the road layout.
The A4137 is an extremely busy route carrying traffic from Hereford to Wales and is used by cars, heavy goods vehicles and many agricultural vehicles every day.
On Wednesday, November 7th at about 11.20am local resident William Lyons heard a loud noise, he is familiar with the road and knew instantly that there had been an accident.
One of the vehicles was carrying gas canisters so the fire service attended. Although there were no injuries, one woman, a passer-by was clipped by one of the vehicles. Another local resident, Nick Thornton said that people regularly wait for their bus at the site the accident occurred and school children also wait in the area. He said it could have been a lot worse.
The corner of the wall around the pub car park was demolished very close to the disabled parking space.
Councillor Russell B Hamilton told the Gazette:?"Road safety at St Owens Cross is of serious concern to me, my constituents and the local Parish Council. I am completely frustrated that longstanding calls for further action to be taken to reduce the risks on the A4137 in St Owens Cross and at the intersection with the B4521 have come to nothing."
