Members of the Ross Safe Neighbourhood Policing Team were at Screwfix in Ross-on-Wye on Tuesday, January 16th, for their public event.

Ross ‘Cops’, as they call themselves on social media, were carrying out security marking for power tools, and they marked hundreds throughout the day.

Beginning at 7am, they told the Ross Gazette there had been a fantastic response, and by 10am, they were half way through their supply of marking equipment.

They used special marking pens and a lacquer spray to set the writing, which can not be removed. By permanently marking the product it makes it much more difficult to sell items on, if they are stolen. This also lowers its sale value to the thief.

The event was just one part of Herefordshire’s prevention scheme, designed to deter thieves and tackle rural and business crime in the county.
