Ross-on-Wye’s MP Jesse Norman was lambasted on Twitter last week for his party’s handling of the economy following a photograph he posted from an aircraft carrier off the coast of New York City.

Mr Norman’s post read: “Over the next two days, the UK will bring together business, political, academic, and military leaders to discuss the future of global security and technologies at the Atlantic Future Forum. Looking forward to day one aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth, our host.”

Dozens of people demanded comment from the Hereford and South Herefordshire MP on the current state of the economy, specifically the pound crashing in value against the dollar, the worst it’s ever been for the UK.

Liz Griffin asked: “Hope you’re also considering the insecurity in UK’s economy. Pretty serious, no?” John Carlisle said: “Just avoid economics and pretend you never were a Tory,” with Jim Ferrers adding: “Don’t look at the economy. Look over there.”

The silence of many Conservative ministers on the state of the economy following the mini-budget, revealed on September 23, was echoed by Robert Bob: “Another cabinet minister with nothing to say about the collapsing economy. Nothing to say about people unable to pay their bills, heat their homes or feed their families. The silence from Tory ministers is astonishing. At least the bankers are cashing it in.”

Jesse Norman’s office was approached for comment.
