'Gaia: Goddess of Earth', a short film made by Herefordshire filmmakers Joe Jenkins and Nick Thomson, has won an Australasian Best Environmental Film Award.
From a field of 85 entrants the film, Gaia: Goddess of Earth was selected as the winner by the prestigious Australian Film Critics Association, and will be screened at the Campfire Film Festival in Federation Square, Melbourne, Australia, on May 12th. The film, produced by Ethics Online, is a breath-taking journey from our beginnings to these last few precarious seconds of biological time, and received its UK Premiere at the 2010 Borderlines Film Festival.
In his Acceptance Speech, electronically relayed to Melbourne, Joe said: "Is this really what we want to do to creation: to drive it to extinction? The making of this film is an aesthetic response to the fact that while we've soiled a great work of art and taken a hammer to the most perfectly proportioned of sculptures, it's our children who can put the pieces back together again."
