The second Weston under Penyard Primary Church of England School Fete was held on Saturday, June 25th in the beautiful grounds of Penyard House, Ross-on-Wye.
Hundreds of people flocked to the prestigious location to enjoy a vast array of traditional stalls such as tombola, raffle, football challenge and arts and crafts.
Members of the Ross and District Dog Club produced an amazing dog display, with local dog owners showing off their pet pooches and winning prizes for ‘waggiest tail’ and ‘best in show’.
Talented local singers Alex Knapman and Andy Margrett took to the stage and produced a faultless performance, whilst attendees tucked into local homemade flame grilled beefburgers, such as the Weston Blue, made with lettuce, bacon, Emmental cheese, caramelised red onions, blue cheese sauce served in a warmed brioche bun. This was swilled down with a generous amount of Westons Cider or Prosecco, and finished off with a fresh vintage cream tea or an array of freshly prepared cakes, meringues and raspberries.
Fete goers were able to work off their ample lunch with a go at skittles, coconut shy, ring a bottle and the very enjoyable tug of war. For the high rollers, Cotswolds of Hereford kindly arrived with a brand new sporty Mini and BMW which two lucky winners now have the privilege of driving for a weekend. Mis-behaved parents were simply sent to the stocks for a barrage of soaking wet sponges.
The emergency services in attendance provided much enjoyment and information, including Ross Firefighters, West Mercia Police and St John Ambulance, Monmouth.
Parent governor and fete organiser, Andy Jones said: “The whole event was a huge success and has raised around £2,500 profit for the school. This was due to the support of the parents, families, governors, staff, and children and, of course, the hundreds of local people from Herefordshire and Gloucestershire who kindly turned up, enjoyed themselves and gave so generously.”
Andy went on to thank the fete sponsors and the overwhelming support of the management and employees of Penyard House who donated their venue, time, effort and resources in order to aid the local school.
