Ross Food Hub recently awarded prizes to those children who had won in different categories in their Pumpkin Competition.

The community group, which was formed last year, worked with local schools and pre-schools to encourage children into growing, eating healthily and reducing food waste. Over 1,300 children were involved in the project and at the weekend, prizes were given out to the winners.

All the prizes were kindly donated by Ross Rotary Club and awarded by the President, Ian Benjamin. Ian said: "It was a joy to see the smiling happy faces of the children who participated in the four different classes of the pumpkin competition. Also a pleasure to support the Ross Food Hub in their endeavours to get more people gardening and growing their own food.

"We look forward to working with the Ross Food Hub in the future".

The winners were: Cass for The Best Carved Pumpkin with a fabulous image of Jurassic Park. Theodor won the Best Creative use of a Pumpkin by turning it into a vase with flowers. Lottie and Lucia won the Best Food Suggestion, using it as a Cheese Fondue and Aidan won The Biggest Pumpkin Competition with a circumference of 146cm.

Tim Shelley, who leads the group and is Project Leader at Ross Community Garden said: "We were delighted by the response by local schools and children and we hope this will encourage even more children to get into growing their own food. We are incredibly grateful for the support given by Ross Rotary Club and we look forward to working with them in the future."
