PUPILS of St Josephs RC Primary School spent Monday morning protesting against the pollution in the River Wye.
The reception class is named River Wye and the children felt frustrated about the river’s condition and that they were not allowed to play at the water’s edge and took to protesting using their own banners from the steps of the Market House in Ross-on-Wye.
Teaching assistant Ameila Dick said that the adult staff who grew up locally all recall a time when the water quality was clear and they enjoyed swimming in it.
“But now it is brown and full of chemicals and sewage. We want the River Wye to be returned to its original water quality so that today’s children can swim and play in it without worrying about getting sick.”
