MADAM, Sometimes quiet heroes need to be celebrated. In Ross, one such person is Nigel Gaudion. For more than 40 years, Nigel has been entertaining one generation after another with his disco. Few in Ross will have gone to entertainment events and not come across Nigel. Last Saturday, Nigel staged a Grand Charity night at the Chase Hotel. Anyone who has ever tried to organise such an event will know quite how much work is involved, the hardest part being selling the tickets.

The Chase was up to capacity last Saturday. Around 250 people enjoyed brilliant entertainment, including a trad jazz band on arrival, Las Vegas dancers in the interval followed by a special up-beat choir and the Ronaldos, a band with their very individual take on some favourites spanning the decades. The dance floor was never empty.

And – of course – there was a disco between acts run by Nigel himself.

But why is he a hero? Well, through his personal efforts, all those that supported the event raised a total of £3500 for St Michael's Hospice and another £1000 for our own Community Hospital.

Well done, Nigel.
