Madam, I want to give my thanks for the contributions of local people to the undoubted success of last Sunday's Rally.

First a couple of reports: Councillor Gordon Lucas informed me that the Armstrong Siddeley owners' club has asked for permission to hold their annual rally on the same site next year. I had invited local owners of these rare and very high quality motor cars to join the Daimlers on Sunday, and four attended.

There was widespread praise for the catering provided by Country Markets Ltd, for the home-grown and home-made quality of the food and refreshments provided. Many said they had not previously known such fare was available!

I wish to give public and personal thanks to the marshals and booking-in team who did the must vital work in making everything work so smoothly on Sunday. Most of these were local, all were volunteers, and most were working from 7:00am to 6:00pm, after spending two to three hours the previous afternoon marking out the field. A good example is Bob Davies of Hope Mansel, who made up and placed the all-important road signs, before spending hours at the Rally entrance, directing arrivals to their assigned places on the field.

Also vital to the undoubted success of the Daimler Rally were local traders and their staff, who put themselves out to ensure that success. In particular I wish to thank Flying Colours for their response to short-notice requests for printing, and Ermin Plant Hire. The staff of the latter volunteered to supply, position and remove the control caravan and quiet generator, early in the morning and in the evening of Sunday.

One person I wish to thank for his guidance and reassurance is PC Mark Murphy of the Ross local police.

With such willingness to help among the local people, I think Ross will be well placed to offer a welcome to other visitors to its beautiful location, and to other users of its Long Acre Meadow in particular.

Finally, I hope everyone will thank the Ross Town Councillors for their foresight last November in giving a grant to help with the costs of the Rally. For the town this has paid off handsomely! Many thanks.

Wilf Stephens, Goodrich.
