Dear Editor,

Every picture tells a story. This one in Goodrich - an area of outstanding natural beauty - is not telling a good one.

Prior to this picture being taken, the area was a well kept well stocked flower bed maintained by caring neighbours, with a view of improving the natural beauty of our environment.

Sadly not everyone appreciated it, and so complained and had it destroyed, claiming that it was a hazard for drivers.

Oddly, many visitors from London, Wiltshire and Cambridge, together with local people, commented on the beautiful floral display, but never that it was a hazard.

Now sadly they can only comment on the eyesore in this area of outstanding natural beauty that has replaced the well stocked well kept floral display. One hopes that the complainers will never be in charge of the environment.

Editor’s Note:

The Ross Gazette contacted Herefordshire Council who said: “Last week, we received a report regarding planting on the traffic island mound at Newmills Hill and B4229 at Goodrich junction.

“As the height of the mound restricted visibility for drivers, particularly low vehicles, we liaised with the relevant resident to arrange for plants to be removed.

“There are no further plans for work at this location.”
