Ross Rowing Club's Juniors have had a great start to the 2010 season with wins indoors and outdoors.
Megan Jephcote achieved another win at the National Junior Indoor rowing championships held in London last week. Megan capped her indoor racing season with a personal best of 511 meters, beating over 90 other girls in her event. Jess Boon also competed in the event and was a creditable 41st. Megan was delighted with her win, especially when she found that her distance was better than over 150 boys in the male event.
Over the weekend the high performance squad, with additions from the J13 development squad, competed for places in the West Midlands team to race at the National Regional finals in April.
The gold medalists were, Rosie Lindley and Kelly Morris WJ16 2x, Amy Surman WJ14 1x, Amy Surman and Catrin Morris WJ14 2x, Catrin Morris, Molly Phillips, Rosie Ingram, Jess Crossman and Georgie Jones WJ14 4X+, J14 2x Will England and Johan Lai, and Elle Blackwood, along with Kelly Morris,
Rosie Lindley and Lucy Jones teamed up with Evesham J16 girls to create a highly impressive WJ16 eight.
These gold medals mean that Ross will have six boats represented in the squad, its largest ever representation and is a testament to the effective nature of the Junior Academy system employed at the Club.
Junior Captain John Lewis said: "Congratulations to all the squad, the coaches could not have asked for more. Quality throughout. I will remember today for a long time to come, you have made a Junior Captain very proud."
Along with the gold medals the squad also picked up four silvers, including Johan Lai in J141x, Rosie Brandram Jones, and Abi Beddard, W15 2x, Abi Beddard, Amy Surman, Kerry Meek, Effie Hiram, & Morgan Baynham Williams, Rosie Brandram Jones in WJ15 1x. Molly Phillips and Jess Crossman picked up a bronze medal in the WJ14 2x event.
The National regional finals take place at the National water Sports Centre in Nottingham. The crews will now enter a new phase of their training cycle where preparing for multilane racing over 1500m.
