A new interactive site has been created that asks users to find hidden hedgehogs in a camouflaged bonfire puzzle, in order to raise awareness of the potential dangers hedgehogs face around Bonfire Night.

Hedgehogs are particularly more at risk during this time of year when many homes host Bonfire Night celebrations. This is because hedgehogs are known for hiding themselves in piles of autumn leaves, twigs and branches making bonfires the perfect nesting place for hedgehogs.

As the majority of people don’t check their premade bonfires before lighting them, nesting hedgehogs are at risk of being injured. As a result of this UK hedgehog rescue homes see an influx of injured and burnt hedgehogs around November 5th.

In order to highlight the importance of checking for hedgehogs, ‘The Hedgehog Hunt’ site has been created by home interiors specialist,  www.Hillarys.co.uk.

Users have to try and find the five cleverly hidden hedgehogs within the interactive bonfire image before their 30 seconds are up. The site also provides tips on what somebody should do if they spot a hedgehog in their garden.

For those that might want more of a challenge, Hillarys have devised a brainteaser puzzle with six more hedgehogs hidden within a leafy autumn background.

The tool can be found at: https://www.hillarys.co.uk/static/hedgehog-hunt/. Fay Vass, Chief Executive of www.britishhedgehogs.org.uk, said: “We urge people to build bonfires on the day they are to be lit to save hedgehogs and other wildlife from appalling suffering.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
