Ross residents stood in silence for one minute on Monday, June 19th, to remember those affected by the Grenfell Towers fire in London. Then as the whistle blew to mark the end of this silence, the lowered flag in the Market Place was raised to mark the start of Armed Forces Week.

Councillors, local traders and members of the Ross-on-Wye branch of the Royal British Legion assembled in the Market Place for the short ceremony. There will be other events in Ross during this week showing support for all those who serve their country, including a Poppy Appeal Tea Party at Ross Court on Saturday, June 24th.

Residents in Hereford will be able a see a fly-past of a Second World War Spitfire on Saturday which will be the highlight of an event packed day. The pilot is Andy Preece, who attended Aylestone School. Andy will be doing the flypast at approx. 1.50pm. He will do three passes over the city centre, initially approaching from the south west, over the Cathedral and depart to the East.

There will be military vehicles and stalls in high town along with many other events taking place throughout the day at the Shire Hall.
