A NUMBER of special Remembrance events will be held in around Ross-on-Wye during Remembrance Week.

The Ross and District Branch of the Royal British Legion have announced that the annual Poppy Appeal will be launched at Morrisons Supermarket on Thursday, October 22 with live collections being held a various locations in and around the town until Sunday, November 8.

On Saturday October 24, the Garden of Remembrance will again utilise the legion’s planter in the Market Place with a formal ceremony taking place at 11am.

On Thursday, November 5 at 11.45am, pupils from Ashfield Park and St Joseph’s Primary School will be joined by the Mayor, Town Councillors and staff and members of the Ross & District Branch of the Royal British Legion in St Mary’s Churchyard to commemorate those who fell in the Korean War and Falklands Conflict as well as to mark the passing of 22 Chelsea Pensioners who died in Ross during their evacuation from London during the Second World War.

On Saturday, November 7 at 10.30am, a Remembrance Service will be held in St Michael’s Church, Brampton Abbots, to be followed by a short Service of Thanksgiving at the Remembrance Shrine at 11am at First Avenue, Greytree.

On Sunday, November, 8, the official Remembrance Sunday, serving military personnel, veterans, army and air cadets as well as uniformed youth groups will parade from the Police Station on Old Maids Walk at 10am before marching to the War Memorial on The Prospect for the service which begins at 10.40am, where civic dignitaries and representatives of a host of town organisations will join for the Town’s formal commemoration of those that have lost their lives in conflict.

On Wednesday, November 11, a short act of commemoration will take place for Armistice Day at the Market House.
