Thanks to the offer of a volunteer Wye Street public conveniences will not now close on November 1st.
The Ross Gazette has learned that the cleaner of the public toilets in Ross has volunteered his services to continue his duties at the Wye Street toilets in the interim, until the asset transfer from Herefordshire Council to Ross Town Council or another solution is in place, which would allow the toilets to remain open.
Earlier this week Councillor Andrew Atkinson lobbied Herefordshire Council to grant Ross Town Council three additional months to make the asset transfer deal "in recognition of their poor treatment". This idea was rejected due to the notice of closure being served on the Wye Street toilets.
Councillor Atkinson said: "We have been backed into a corner when we could have sorted this out two years ago and everyone would've been a winner. Now as a result of inactivity there has been a closure notice."
Councillor Atkinson said that the cleaner's offer to continue his services would effectively be Herefordshire Council handing over the keys to him and would not need Ross Town Council's intervention.Ross Town Council and Herefordshire Council will continue discussions regarding a more permanent solution as part of asset transfer negotiations.
