The opposition had the first push back and instantly showed they were going to put up a fight by launching an all out attack at the Ross goal.
This attack strategy didn't phase the strong lines of Brian Clare, Sam Warner, Richard Jennison and Greg Weston. After realising Lydney meant business the Ross midfield, Tom Walton, Luke Ward, Gareth Bowen and Kristian Franklin stepped it up to cause some problems down the wings and through the centre giving opportunities for the attackers, Adrian Williams, James Brown, Phil Evans and Andy Cross. However goals just weren't being produced. In the end it was left up to Brian Clare to claim the first goal of the match with a reverse flick.
Now Ross had the advantage they thought that Lydney might give in - how wrong they were. Within a few minutes the score had been levelled with a fierce battle of trying to clear the ball from the home sides 'D' the opposition claimed one back, not allowing this to deter them Ross pressed on and got a free hit just outside Lydney's 'D' it was hit in to be received by Luke Ward who hit another one home for Ross leaving the scores at 2-1 when the half time whistle blew.
Encouraged to make the gap bigger Ross went on with a calm mind ready to take on any attempts from Lydney to equalise, the chances for Ross to completely dominate were thick and fast but goal scoring didn't seem to be on the menu as finding the net yet again proved difficult. The aggression started to show in both teams with harder tackles and faster passing with both sides sometimes struggling to control the anger within, Ross' short corners were few and far between unlike previous matches only two were awarded in the home sides favour. Inevitably it was left up to lethal attacker Adrian Williams to finish with one of his goals which left Ross victorious which now puts them at the top in Herefordshire and Gloucestershire Division 1.
Thanks due to umpire Dave Chatwin.
Greg Weston was awarded South Hereford Motorcaravan Centre Ltd Man of the Match for his different skills and all out defence.
