A LARGE gathering assembled at the town’s Market House for a ceremony to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Japan Day with a flag raising ceremony in Ross-on-Wye.
Just as the church bells chimed for midday on Friday, August 15 the town fell silent to honour those that lost their lives in the service of their Country.
The service was led by Rev Preb Kelvin Price and Paul Cummings, the chairman of Ross and District British Legion with commentary from deputy mayor Cllr Sarah Freer and Paul Deneen, Deputy Lieutenant of Herefordshire.
At the appropriate time during the proceedings the special VJ flag was raised by Mary Sinclair Powell.
VJ Day marks the anniversary when Japan announced its surrender to the Allied Forces in 1945.
