Members of Ross Meeting Centre were thrilled to be nominated by Dr Simon Lenanne of Alton Street Surgery, for the Dementia Carer Category of the recent ‘Health and Social Care Awards 2018’.
The nomination recognised the work of the Centre over the last 18 months. He said:?“The Ross Meeting Centre is a real trailblazer in dementia care in both Herefordshire and the UK as a whole. It provides a space for people with dementia and their carers to spend quality time together in a supportive and caring environment. The focus is on having fun with loved ones, turning on its head the idea that respite day care is a place where someone is left safely for a few hours.
The centre is also hugely beneficial for carers, as they can meet up, share advice and offer mutual support.”
Anne Parsons, the Centre Administrator told the Ross Gazette: “We could hardly believe it when we were chosen as one of three finalists in this group and invited to attend the presentation ceremony at Lyde Arundel, Hereford on Tuesday, September 18th, where around 200 people were entertained and dined.
“Although we did not win in our group we feel immensely proud that our work has been recognised, particularly the time and commitment of our volunteers and thanks to the wonderful people who come each week to share their lives with us."See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
