The Ross Community Litter Clean-up Crew (RCLCUC) have been taking stock as the new year begins and looking back at the amazing year they have completed since the group began in 2018.
Who would have thought on that cold day in February last year, when three local residents decided to set up the group, that they would have finished 2018 having collected around a ton of litter from the streets and pathways of our beautiful town.
This year the RCLCUC want to focus on
• Growing the number of amazing volunteers that turn up, they couldn’t do this without their team of #LitterHeroes.
• Recycling more - they have a plan for the organised litter picks
• Working more with schools and groups of the younger generation. RCLCUC is delighted to be meeting up with members of John Kyrle High School later this month.
• Working with the businesses of Ross-on-Wye - Many have signed up to the Stop the Drop Pledge. The group’s dream would be for all the shops in Ross to sign the pledge and keep the pavements and curbs outside their premises free from litter and cigarette butts by the end of 2019. Some do this already and it makes such a difference for locals and visitors to the town.
The group has already registered for the Great British Spring Clean, which takes place between March 22nd and April 23rd and they will be working with groups around Ross to make this year a big Ross clean up. If you want to find out more you can join the group on Facebook and message them through their Page or follow them on Instagram and twitter.
The group is aware that they is even more that they could do, but they need more volunteers to make a difference. So why not go along and join them at one of their events. And they said, while they would love you to stay with them all morning and be there every week they know it’s not always possible but they would be grateful for as much or as little time as you have and don’t forget you can bring children.
The events for the coming weeks will all be on a Sunday morning, meeting at 10:00am and all equipment will be provided.
