£60,000 is being invested in bold arts and heritage projects across Herefordshire, including a project which began in Ross-on-Wye, involving local primary schools through the Wye Valley Learning Network.

Gilpin 2020, which has secured a £12,000 boost, involves contemporary responses to and a virtual version of the historic Wye Tour. It coincides with the 250th anniversary of the famous tour, which played an important role in the birth of modern tourism.

Five members of a judging panel, including Ross Gazette reporter, Aliya Shibli, volunteered on behalf of Rural Media’s Great Place Hidden Gems grant scheme to determine which projects should be allocated funding.

Various schools and organisations will be getting involved in Gilpin 2020, including Brampton Abbotts Primary School, the Ross Tourism Association, and the Ross Civic Society.

The project looks to establish and strengthen links with providers of local tourist attractions, and instil a sense of place and pride not only in Ross-on-Wye residents, but visitors and tourists in the town.See the full story and read about which other projects received funding in this week’s edition of the Ross Gazette, or subscribe to our online edition here
