A WYE Valley walk close to Ross-on-Wye has been named among the best places in Britain to enjoy an autumn stroll this October.

The route around Sellack, which takes walkers alongside the River Wye and across the distinctive Foy suspension bridge, was selected by The Times as one of three recommended UK walks for the month.

The circular route offers views across the Herefordshire countryside, with autumn bringing changing colours to the woodland and riverbanks along this picturesque stretch of the Wye.

Sellack lies a few miles north of Ross and is surrounded by rolling farmland, woodland and riverside scenery, making it a popular area for walkers exploring the wider Wye Valley.

One of the highlights is the footbridge at Foy, which crosses the River Wye between the parishes of Foy and Sellack.

The suspension bridge provides pedestrians with a crossing over the river and has become a familiar landmark for walkers using the network of public footpaths in the area.

The countryside surrounding Ross is particularly popular during autumn, when woodland throughout the Wye Valley begins turning shades of red, orange and gold.

Walkers can also encounter wildlife along the river, while the elevated countryside surrounding the Wye provides extensive views across rural Herefordshire.

The recognition comes as people are being encouraged to make the most of the countryside during the cooler autumn months, with October traditionally providing some of the most colourful conditions for walking.

Those heading out are advised to check the weather beforehand, wear suitable footwear and stick to marked public rights of way, particularly following periods of wet weather when riverside paths can become muddy.

The Sellack route's inclusion provides another national endorsement for the countryside surrounding Ross-on-Wye and the wider Wye Valley, which continues to attract walkers and visitors throughout the year.
