Ross Rowing Club Ladies' VIII travelled to Boston in Lincolnshire to take part in the annual Boston Marathon, a gruelling 31 mile race on the river Witham between Lincoln and Boston.
There were more than 200 entries for the race on a near perfect day for rowing. The crew, Holly Campbell, Emily Preece, Nicky Wild, Cathy Fletcher, Georgina Watling, Annie Williams, Geraldine Calcraft and Sheron Dean-Lucas, coxed by Dan Ruck, were well prepared for the race. Dan kept the ladies going throughout the 31 miles, even playing music through the speakers to inspire them every step of the way.
Ground crew, Chris, Nicky and Ollie Ruck, Graham and Fran Watling, Neil Lucas and Ruth Davies, supported and encouraged them throughout the race. They crossed the line in just over four and a half hours, an excellent result. They had very blistered hands but big smiles on their faces after such an awesome performance.
The crew raised a substantial amount of money for Shelter Box, an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide.
Ross rower Paul Carpenter teamed up with his former club mates at Monmouth in a Veteran C VIII and they completed the course in three hours thirteen minutes, the fastest time of the day.
