A YOUNG under 13s side from Ross Cricket club took on the might of Gloucestershire clubs at the annual Gloucester City Winget six-a-side tournament. This was held on a glorious hot and sunny Spa Ground in Gloucester last Sunday, August 15th. Heavy rain had preceded the day but great work by the host club meant a prompt start to the group stages, despite being wet underfoot.

Ross first opponents were Corse and Staunton. Each outfielder had to bowl one over and each batsman had to retire at 20. It was difficult to judge what would be a competitive total. Having been inserted initially, there was solidity rather than fireworks: Marcus Ballinger was strong on the pull whilst Toby Hiram produced some more classical strokes off front and back foot. Their total of 49 proved too few as Corse and Staunton ran at every opportunity and punished anything too short.
