A small stream adjacent to a public footpath near to Morrisons supermarket is once again full of rubbish and looks very untidy.

A local resident, Mr Tony Smith of Smallbrook Gardens is very concerned that no-one seems to want to take responsibility for this part of the brook. He told the Ross Gazette:?“Its a disgrace, overgrown and rubbish all the way down.”

The part of the stream which runs alongside Smallbrook Gardens is maintained by Herefordshire Housing. It is after the brook goes under the road and continues that it is a problem. Although Mr Smith is aware that litterpickers do a great job clearing up around the town he does not think that volunteers should have to take this on.

He said this is often the first thing people see when they visit Ross-on-Wye using the Broadmeadow Caravan Park and it is not a good start.

Mr Edwards of the Caravan Park told the Gazette that he is often very concerned about the brook as it could get blocked in heavy rain but he has also tried to find out who is responsible. Councillor Phil Cutter said that he is trying to ascertain just who is responsible.

A spokesman for Herefordshire Council told the Ross Gazette that it appears that Herefordshire Council does not own any land in the immediate vicinity of the brook adjacent to Smallbrook Gardens to thesouth of Station Street, so has no responsibility in respect of the brook in that location.
