RESIDENTS on Howle Hill are getting a bit fed up with delivery vehicles getting stuck down their narrow lanes. Despite signs clearly stating, 'Unsuitable for heavy vehicles' vans and lorries are ignoring these warnings and are choosing to listen to their satnavs instead. Walls – some of which have been standing for many years – have been damaged.
Twice in one week local resident, John Flowers, has had to deal with the problem. On July 5th he was woken at 6.45am to the sound of a van beeping in the lane, just twenty yards from his bedroom window. It was no surprise for John to discover, once more, a 40 foot van stuck along the twisting, turning lanes because it had ignored the signs and instead followed satnav advice. And on July 7th it was the turn of an eight wheel tanker to get stuck. "When something like this happens the road remains blocked as long as it takes to clear. Imagine if there is an emergency. How will they get through," said John talking to the Ross Gazette.
An inspector from the Council was due to look at the problem on Tuesday, July 19th.
