Madam, The householder is repeatedly being extorted by the Government to reduce carbon emissions, pay due attention to property insulation and cut back on fuel usage. I wish to draw to the attention of your readers, if I may, the gross environmental damage being perpetrated nationwide by many of our "high street retailers".

These selfish uncaring people persistently leave their doors wide open, allowing massive quantities of heat to escape daily into the environment, at a time when there is discussion about whether we will be able to generate sufficient power for our future needs. Industrial sized heaters are often sited immediately above the doors further exacerbating the situation.

Upon being challenged I find that the response is usually one of the following: - The public will not enter the store if we do not leave the doors open, the Manager has ordered me to leave the doors open or disabled people cannot open closed doors.

I consider that the Government should introduce new legislation to prevent shopkeepers from leaving doors open for any significant time, imposing hefty fines and ASBOs for this type of serious anti-social behaviour.

Until the offending retailers show more social responsibility regarding global warming (You know who you are!) I can only plead with the general public to boycott these stores. I respectfully ask everyone for support in helping to stamp out this environmentally damaging practice.
