The Ross-on-Wye Men’s Shed opened its doors on Thursday, March 8th and the process of building the workshop is already well under way.

It is situated at unit 4 on the Ashburton Industrial Estate, directly opposite Aqua Heat and new members are welcome. The only stipulation being that you are over 55 years and either retired or semi retired.

David Moore has been working to bring a Men’s Shed to Ross after seeing the benefits they can bring. The purpose of Men’s Sheds is to alleviate loneliness, depression and isolation amongst elderly men in the local community and surrounding areas.

You do not have to suffer from these problems to be part of the group, or you could just be looking for a way to work on hobbies in a dedicated space. The group is always looking for tools and equipment. They intend to make items made of both wood and metal and in due course sell these items for the benefit of the Shed. They also intend to repair and renovate so let them have your projects and see what they can do.

David told the Ross Gazette that they do not intend to put themselves under pressure to complete a particular project but if they take it on they will deal with it expeditiously in return for a reasonable donation.

The organisers are very grateful to Herefordshire County Council for their benevolence.
