HEREFORD College of Art photography student, Kirsty Pye has been spending a lot time with the Sisters of the Poor Clares Convent in Much Birch recently, and the resultant photographs are featured at this month's Hereford Photography Festival.

Kirsty has a long-standing personal family relationship with the Poor Clares convent. When she became a photography student it seemed only natural that she would return for her 'editorial portraits' assignment. "I was thrilled when they agreed," said Kirsty speaking to the Gazette. "They were very open, planning out where they wanted the portraits to be done. I am really happy with the end result."

The portraits were taken in the common room at the convent under a picture of St Clare (which was painted by one of the late Sisters) because it is a strong focal point for their community. "There was a real sense of trust from them and a privilge for me to do it. The Mother Abbess was really happy they were shown in the Mayor's Parlour. "First Nuns on the Run," she told Kirsty, "and now Nuns in the Mayor's Parlour!"

Kirsty's portraits of the Poor Clares will be on show at the Mayor's Parlour until the end of November. For more information on Kirsty's work visit: http://www.kirstypye.com">www.kirstypye.com
