Weston Athletic were back to league duties on Saturday in the North Gloucestershire Division 2, after last week's cup victory. Once again they had their scoring boots on to record a comprehensive 6 – 0 away victory over Redmarley. The win pushes Weston one place up the league, only three points behind second place and with two games in hand.

Managers Burnham and Morris stuck with the 3 – 5 – 2 formation which has served Weston so well over the last couple of weeks. The back three were the same for the third game running with Paul Burnham as sweeper with Wayne Husbands and Shaun Aston, changes were made in the wing back position with Liam Parry and Jack Bray coming in. The midfield three were Chalky Robertshaw, Steve Kittner and Lee Walker, with Wes Downing, returning after suspension, to partner Eli Wooding up front.

Weston started slightly sloppy and the first chance of the game fell to the home side after only five minutes, but keeper Dan Morris saved well with his feet. Redmarley continued to apply pressure for the next five minutes but could not score. Weston then broke away. Burnham played a delightful ball over the top of the defence to Downing who put an excellent ball into the box for Kittner to poke home from close range to put Weston one up.

The goal seemed to settle Weston down and they soon started to dominate the game and went close to doubling their lead on numerous occasions, with Parry, in particular forcing a good save from the keeper.

Weston eventually got the goal they deserved after some good work from Wooding outwide, he put a dangerous ball into the box for Walker to finish with a back heel from close range to put Weston two up at half time.

Credit must go to the home side who came out for the second half full of spirit and put Weston under immediate pressure. Weston's back three stood firm, and after 55 minutes and good work in midfield by Walker, they went three up. Walker played in Wooding to round the keeper, then Wooding scored his second with the goal of the game when he hammered the ball home from 25 yards into the top corner to give the keeper no chance.

Weston then started to created chances every time they went forward. Downing scored the fifth goal after going in strongly, but fairly, on the keeper and finished into an empty net. Bray then completed the scoring in the 85th minute when he finished from 15 yards ,after once again being played in by Walker, to make it six nil to Weston.

Weston have now gone three games without conceding and are scoring more freely than the start of the season. They hope to continue like this over the festive period. T R Yates – Man of the Match: Lee Walker – An outstanding game in the middle and out wide
