Becky Flynn continued her fundraising efforts for the British Heart Foundation in Ross-on-Wye last weekend and raised more than £2,000 with the support of several local businesses and enthusiastic ‘spinners’.
Approximately 50 people came together over the course of 24 hours to complete a 24 hour spinathon at Wye Fit Gym in support of the charity. Taking part inthe event were four teams, including Rehau and Dawleys, who kept a spin bike going for 24 hours from Friday evening to Saturday evening.
To ensure the full 24 hours was achieved each team had two spin bikes so when it was time for changeover it was seamless, with some teams keeping both bikes going for much more of the time.
Some team members did an hour with many doing more. Sam Taylor and Kim Nicholls stayed for the whole 24 hours, sleeping in the gym, and completed approximately 10 hours each on the spin bikes.
Becky estimates that approximately £2000-£2500 has been raised from the event for the BHF but won’t know the final amount until the sponsorship is all in.
Becky, who is due to run the London Marathon in just over a week, set herself the goal of raising £5000 for the British Heart Foundation in memory of her brother, Jonathan, who died at the end of 2015 due to an undiagnosed heart condition. The goal was set in October 2015 and Becky has smashed that target and now increased it to £20,000.
She told the Gazette: “This isn’t a goal I will reach immediately but I will get there. We have some more fun charity events planned including a paint runner in the summer and a zombie run at Halloween with some more events to be announced.” To read the full article, please see this week's edition of the Ross Gazette.
