Members of the local football and cricket clubs, who run the Sports Centre at Wilton appealed to Ross Town Councillors for help with their Community Interest Company.
Paul Flitney and Brian Nix, who are two of the directors of the CIC, were at the Town Council meeting on Monday, February 9th.
Paul explained that the clubs wanted to bring the council’s attention to two issues, the new parking situation at Wilton and the CIC’s sense of isolation.
Paul said that since parking charges had been introduced at Wilton Road car park the club was very concerned about the number of people who park at the sports centre. He said it is great the sports centre is used by dog walkers, runners and others but when there is training, or on match days, there can be hundreds of people turning up and to avoid paying to park at Wilton they park on verges etc.
Paul said that the situation will be made worse if people who are not taking part in activities at the sports centre use the car park to avoid paying parking charges.
He explained that the CIC does not want to have to close the car park. He said the CIC had several suggestions to make the situation better. He asked if the weekend restrictions could be removed, making payments only due until 5.30pm on training nights or offering permits to regular users.
The second issue is that the directors of CIC are there because of their love of sport and because they want to support their children, not deal with litter, dog mess or potholes.
He appealed for one of the Councillors to join the CIC to help them with such issues. The Councillors agreed to discuss this and Councillor Phil Cutter said he will attend the next meeting.
