STAGECOACH has appointed of Martin Gibbon as its new managing director for local operations across, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire and surrounding counties.
Mr Gibbon joined Stagecoach in 2011 and has held a variety of operational and leadership roles across the South of England, the West, Oxfordshire and most recently Wales.
Between 2019 and 2023, he served as operations director in the West region and has recently been managing director of Stagecoach South Wales, alongside serving as the chairman of the Confederation of Public Transport in Wales.
Returning to the West, Mr Gibbon will focus on continuing to grow bus use across the region by delivering reliable, high-quality services and building on the strong partnerships already established with local authorities and stakeholders.
A key priority will also be ensuring colleagues across the business continue to feel supported, valued and proud of the service they provide.
Mr Gibbon said: “My focus will be on continuing to grow bus use by delivering reliable, high-quality services that people want to choose. I’ve seen first‑hand how good public transport can transform opportunities for people, and that’s what motivates me to keep improving it.
“I’ve always been motivated by roles that make a real difference to people’s daily lives. Public transport is one of the few industries where you can see that impact immediately — connecting communities, supporting local economies and helping people access work, education and essential services. It also plays a vital role in improving social inclusion and delivering meaningful environmental benefits.
“You can expect openness, partnership and a genuine commitment to making your local bus services the best they can be.”
Sam Greer, Stagecoach’s chief operating officer, added: “Martin Gibbon brings real passion for our industry, strong leadership and deep operational expertise. Importantly, he brings a transparency and genuine care for our local communities.”
