Headteachers, governors and pupils from six local schools launched their new network with a trip on the River Wye.

They climbed abroad the Kingerfisher Cruiser at St Dubricius church in Whitchurch on Friday, September 9th. The journey combined a getting to know you expedition for some members of the participating schools with the opportunity to mark the official launch of the Wye Valley Learning Network.

Representatives from six Herefordshire primary schools, Ashfield Park, Goodrich, St Weonards, Trinity, Walford and Whitchurch made the most of a warm day for the enjoyable river cruise. The group also included Sarah Somers the School Improvement Advisor.

Tony Griffiths of Goodrich Primary School spoke to the group before they climbed on board. He said that the six schools have developed their collaborative working through strong partnerships that support all of the children and school communities. He added that you could launch a rocket or a ship and the group had decided that a boat launch was the most appropriate way to mark the launch of their learning network.

The individual headteachers and governors agreed that they are delighted that what had been an informal arrangement has been put on a more significant level.

The motto of the Wye Valley Learning Network is 'Learning Together' and Louise George of Walford School said: "Everyone involved is looking forward to putting this into practice for the benefit of all."
