A spokesperson from the Environment Agency has confirmed that Ross-on-Wye is not expected to flood today (Wednesday, December 30th). However, it expected that the River Wye will burst its banks in Herefordshire on New Year’s Day.
Dave Throup, the Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, told the Ross Gazette there has already been about one inch of rainfall over the Wye in Wales, near the source of the river. He confirmed that another inch of rain is expected to fall overnight. This rain will cause the river to flood, move downstream, and by New Year’s Day, a peak of 4.5m is expected in Ross.
This flood level is expected to be similar to the flooding which was seen in Ross at the beginning of December; it is not expected that local residents should experience any severe property damage as a result of the weather.
Dave added that the centre of Storm Frank is currently over Iceland, so the UK is receiving a trailing weather front, which should pass through by tomorrow morning.
