A SHORT entry met a good trade at the Ross-on-Wye livestock market on Monday, June 1 with best sorts being sold up to 396p per kilogramme.
Auctioneers RG and RB Williams report that more cattle could have easily been sold at the auction with the overall average price of cattle reaching £2,083 per head.
The top vendors were EJ & JM Westoby & Sons of Brooklands and DE & SJ Cheacker, of Ostbridge Manor Farm.
A short entry of overage cattle sold to a very strong trade with the overall average price of cattle reaching £1,890 per head. The top vendor was Hereford & Ludlow College, of the Holme Lacy Campus.
A better-than-expected entry of lambs sold to another very strong trade. Better lambs sold between 500p and 519p per kilogramme while heavier lambs also sold very well up to £219.
The overall average price of lambs was £200 per head with the top vendors being L Reynolds of Beauville Farm and SP Merrick of Jug Green Farm.
A useful end of season entry of hoggs sold to an excellent trade to average 435p per kilogramme. The overall average price of hoggs was £166 per head with the top vendor being GJ Sevenoaks & Sons of Cross Ash Farm
A slightly reduced entry of cull ewes and rams met a very fast trade with decent sorts selling up to £216 per head. The overall average price of ewes was £170 per head.
The top vendors were P & S Miles of Celyn Cottage and MJ Duffield of Denfield Farm.
A sale of store cattle is being held on Thursday, June 11 which includes a genuine herd dispersal on behalf of Messrs Herbert and comprises of a Hereford Bull, 16 Hereford Cows of all ages and Hereford calves aged between one and five months.
