Wye Valley Music’s June concert, presented in collaboration with createRoss, is on Sunday, June 14th at 3pm in St.Mary’s Church, Ross- on-Wye.
World-renowned period violinist Rachel Podger and Brecon Baroque take the resurgence of the Arts in England post-1660 as the inspiration for “The Muses Restor’d”, their violin-led programme of English chamber music from Jacobean to Early Georgian England, including works by Henry Purcell, John Blow, William Lawes and George Handel, that deserve to be as celebrated and enjoyed as the works of their continental contemporaries, such as Bach, Vivaldi, Couperin and Rameau.
The international early music specialists playing with Rachel on June 14th include virtuosic cello and viola da gamba player, Mélisande Corriveau, celebrated lutenist and guitarist, Toby Carrand, mainstay and anchor of Brecon Baroque performances, Marcin Świątkiewicz, harpsichord and organ.

She was the first woman to be awarded the prestigious Royal Academy of Music/Kohn Foundation Bach Prize in October 2015, was Gramophone Artist of the Year 2018, and the Ambassador for REMA’s Early Music Day 2020. A creative programmer, Rachel is the founder and Artistic Director of Brecon Baroque Festival and her ensemble Brecon Baroque; is Principal Guest Director for Tafelmusik; Patron for The Continuo Foundation and an Ambassador for the Learned Society of Wales.
