Local dance group ‘Wye Not Dance?’ have recently returned from the UKDC European Dance Championships in Blackpool with a collection of awards and trophies.

Louise Stephens, the Wye Not Dance? teacher took her troop of dancers, their dance mums and a group of long term supporters to the event by coach to attend the annual two day competition, beginning on Friday, April 21st.

The dancers, aged between eight and ten, were involved in solo competitions, partner dances and Pro-Am dances.

For the third year running, John Howard achieved first place in the male division and is still the European Champion.

In junior partner dances, John Howard and Morgan Lee took second place with Grace Lerego and Taylor Fowler proudly taking third place. Sue Stephens also won the people’s choice vote and was presented with her own special award.

The group qualified for the Championships by attending regional competitions throughout the year. Louise told the Ross Gazette that she is immensely proud of everyone who has competed. “Their dedication and practice has paid off,” she commented.

The dance group fundraises as much as they can to pay for their competition entries and coaches to venues.

They practice every Friday at Wye Fit and would welcome new dancers to join in the fun, classes for beginners are from 4.45pm until 5.30pm and lessons are just £3, but the first lesson is free. For more information see the Wye Not Dance? Facebook page.
