David Bambrough, a former Welsh Guardsman who served in the Falklands went to Brecon for the Dedication of the Royal British Legion’s ‘Falkland’s Bench’ there.

Whilst talking to some of his comrades he mentioned that Ross had recently launched an appeal to do the very same. Asking how they raised the money he was told that a large part was donated by the Royal British Legion Riders “Ride of Respect” for the 35th Anniversary of the Falklands. At the end of the day the donations were split between Brecon Royal British Legion and SAMA Wales. Much to David’s amazement, after the service in Brecon, they in turn gave him money for the bench in Ross-on-Wye.

David thanked everyone on behalf of the Ross-on-Wye Branch and then on Thursday, October 5th he handed over a total of £755.32 to Graham Aplin (Chairman) and Margaret Jones (Secretary) who were both quite overwhelmed with this generosity.

Margaret has since spoken to Steve Liversage of SAMA Wales and she told the Gazette that it is their aim to have Benches all over the UK. Any extra funds collected in Ross will therefore be donated back to SAMA Wales so that another area can benefit the way Ross has.

Margaret said: “Please support this appeal – it is very important to all those who served and the families of those who lost their lives and this is a way they will always be remembered.
