ROSS-on-Wye is set for an evening of dazzling music when Parisian-flavoured jazz and gypsy swing quartet Swing From Paris perform at The Venue on Saturday, November 22 at 7.30pm.
The quartet features Fenner Curtis on violin, Andy Bowen and Sam Hughes on guitars, and Tomasz Williams on double bass.
Drawing inspiration from jazz legends of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, including Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Charlie Christian, Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli and tango maestro Astor Piazzolla, the group has spent more than 15 years captivating audiences across Europe with their lively and sophisticated sound.
Their performances combine swinging rhythms with intricate string arrangements, creating music that is both technically impressive and irresistibly infectious.
Swing From Paris have performed at some of the continent’s most prestigious jazz festivals, including the Django Reinhardt Festival at Samois-sur-Seine in France.
They have also made appearances on BBC’s Hairy Bikers television programme, bringing their unique blend of string jazz to wider audiences. Known for their engaging stage presence, the quartet delivers performances that are as entertaining as they are musically accomplished.
Councillor Ed O’Driscoll, who shared news of the concert, encouraged local residents to support live music in Ross, saying the event promises “virtuoso musicianship in Ross” and is a must-see for both jazz enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys high-quality live entertainment.
He added that events like this help to keep the town’s cultural calendar vibrant and provide opportunities for the community to experience world-class music close to home.
Tickets for the performance are £16, and the show begins at 7.30pm at The Venue. Jazz fans and music lovers of all ages are invited to enjoy an evening celebrating the timeless sounds of gypsy swing and Parisian jazz, with a mix of classic tunes and energetic performances sure to leave audiences tapping their feet and wanting more.
