MADAM, I was a member of a small committee of the Ross branch of the Royal British Legion whose task of reference was the resiting of the War Memorial in the Prospect. Another member of the committee was Councillor Gordon Lucas, who was also the Town Council co-ordinator for the task.
Despite the fact that his wife Margaret was due to enter hospital he completed this task with his usual vigour.
He could be seen most days on site encouraging the contractor to have the work completed by November 9th for Armistice Sunday. In fact it was completed well ahead of that date.
As a local business man and an active Town Councillor he took the pressure of this extra commitment in his stride. He was seen on Saturday, November 8th with brush in hand clearing the paths of mud and at an early hour on Sunday preparing the lay out of the parade.
May I, on behalf of the residents of Ross, show our appreciation of Councillor Lucas and the contractors for a job well done.
The turn out on Sunday was the icing on the cake.
AC (Jim) Emery, HON Sec RBL Ross
