The British passion for houmous, has been celebrated this week, 30 years ago after Waitrose sold its first pot, according to the Daily Mail.
An online article explaining how we have all ‘gone dippy for houmous,’ says that first houmous recipe in English came in 1950, courtesy of writer Elizabeth David.
The Mail reports that, stranded in a Ross-on-Wye hotel room during a storm, David decided to create her own cookbook, A Book of Mediterranean Food, which contains a classic houmous recipe.
Now a pot of the simple chickpea dip, is sold every second in a British supermarket.
