MADAM, On Monday at the Town Council Meeting, there were questions asked about the closure of The Chestnuts. Why wasn't there a Public Meeting? Why didn't the Council make an official statement? Why has there not been a statement regarding the financial position from the trustees? Also why wasn't a rescue plan attempted?
We were told that a Public Meeting was not felt advisable as it would hinder the negotiations that were ongoing with several companies that were interested in purchasing /taking over the Chestnuts. Are these Companies still interested?
It is heartbreaking to see this building empty. It has been a great asset to the town for at least 50 years. There are many elderly and infirm people needing the care that was given by the dedicated staff at this home.
