It's not every day the Ross Gazette office gets a visitor as well travelled as Elli. From Greece to Denmark, back down through nine European countries, racking up 2,500 miles, and now finally settling down in Ross.Elli, short for Ellinika (meaning 'Greek'), is a Greek Hare Hound and was found on the streets of Greece, as a stray, by Pam and Keith Meakin. They had been sailing around the Mediterranean for six years.
Pam said: "We had seen many stray dogs and cats, litters of puppies and kittens during our travels but always held back from taking any of them."
The end of Pam and Keith's adventure was signalled when they endured a particularly horrendous sea journey, travelling back to Greece from Malta and were hit by 28 knot winds, ripped sails, snapped fan belts from the boat's engine and water leaking into the boat from a mysterious source.
Pam said: "At that point Keith said, 'I've had enough, I want to go home.' We had to make plans to get back to the UK, as we didn't have a house, and that night a puppy bounced into our lives."Read the full story of Elli's journey in this week's Ross Gazette
