A group of Herefordshire organisations are getting together for a special “bake-off” to raise money for people with autism.

The event will take place at The Den Restaurant in Hereford on Sunday, April 2nd - the last day of Autism Awareness Week - and will start at 5pm.

It is being organised by Kemble at Home, the National Autistic Society (NAS) in Hereford, The Courtyard and The Den Restaurant, and will give people the chance to bake a variety of cupcakes from scratch.

The chef from The Den, in West Street, will give expert tuition to show everyone how the cupcakes should be made, and then everyone will be able to follow recipes and have a go themselves.

Sandra Taylor, of Kemble at Home, said the event would be a real team effort with specialists from each organisation adding their expertise.

“We are hoping for a wide spread of ages at the bake-off, and it will be appropriate for older people as well as young,” she said.

“The workshop will be free and open to all, although we are asking for donations to NAS Herefordshire, and we hope it will be a really enjoyable event.

“We are very grateful for the organisations who are giving their time to offer their expertise for the day.

“The Den’s chef will be leading the bake-off, with creative input from the Creative Aging team from The Courtyard who will be helping people decorate their biscuits once they have been baked.

“Carers from Kemble at Home will be on hand to tell people about the care services they provide for people in their own homes, and representatives from NAS Herefordshire will be sharing information about autism.

“Ultimately, it’s all about having fun and spreading awareness about the support which is on offer here in Herefordshire.”
