THE Greatest Showman is the film that has been chosen by the local community to be screened at this year’s outdoor movie night at the Ross-on-Wye Bandstand.

Ross Town Council will once again be hosting the free film on Saturday, August 15.

Of the five film options put forward for screening saw 45 per cent of the votes going for the film that follows Hugh Jackman as a showman and entertainer in the1800s.

The other films were Barbie (2023), Wreck it Ralph (2012) and classics, Jurassic Park (1993) and The Goonies (1985).

Last year’s screening at the bandstand was the American musical fantasy film ‘Wicked’.

The Greatest Showman was released in 2017 and is directed by Michael Gracey from a screenplay by Jenny Bicks and Bill Condon. It is based on an original story by Bicks. The other film stars include Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya.

The film features nine original songs and is a heavily fictionalised depiction of the life of P. T. Barnum, a showman and entertainer who created the Barnum & Bailey Circus, and its star attractions.

Event organisers suggest bringing a blanket or chair with you and be prepared to wrap up warm.

To bring extra magic, a range of hot food and treats will be available from local, independent traders including brownies from Chock Shop and popcorn or salty snacks from Shakes n Seasons.

Everyone is welcome as the event is free to attend and there is no need to book.

The film’s screening is scheduled for an 8:45pm start at the Bandstand and visitors will be able to sing along with Jackman and the star-studded cast with songs ‘Let It Go’, ‘This Is Me’, ‘Never Enough’ and ‘A Million Dreams’.
