Madam, I am not seeking re-election in May. Using your excellent letters page, could I thank all in Ross who supported me over the eight years I have been a Herefordshire councillor.

During this time I have been very involved with many people who work in all aspects of the voluntary sector. They are to be commended for the amazing work they do, giving the most valuable asset they have – their time – to help the most vulnerable within our society and improve those people's lives. I have had the pleasure of working with some very committed officers and achieved some positive outcomes for Ross, and also failed in some – usually owing to a shortage lack of finance. One positive outcome is the Prince of Wales crossing. Gordon Lucas and I stood there in 2004 when the consultations were agreed, and now, in 2011, it is in place.

I wish all who stand for election this time the best of luck.
